Experience and Background of Kate Gilles, LMSW, LGSW (she/her)
I believe that every individual deserves to live openly and safely in their gender and sexual identity and to seek and sustain positive, fulfilling, and mutually respectful sexual and intimate relationships. I strive to create a space that is safe and affirming while also encouraging clients to dig deeply and challenge themselves. Whether you’re working on a long-standing pattern or a new challenge, I will work with you to gain clarity around what you’re seeking and to identify the inner strengths that will help you get there. In simple terms, I see the body as a source of information as well as a resource to support our mental and emotional well-being.
I believe that every body is a good body, deserving of care and respect. Clients have described me as warm, humorous, and thoughtful. For those more familiar with psychotherapy terms, I work from a relational and strengths-based perspective and have experience in psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral approaches (including traditional CBT and ACT), as well as mind-body connection modalities. I have worked with clients 16 years old and up from a variety of backgrounds, including the LGBTQ+ community, and with issues ranging from anxiety and depression to gender identity, body image, seasonal affective disorder, ADHD, and life transitions. In addition to my professional training as a therapist, I have been a volunteer abortion doula for nearly 10 years and spent 15+ years working in sexual and reproductive health research and policy. I am allied with the kink, ethically non-monogamous / polyamorous, and sex worker communities and welcome clients of all relationship and family structures.
